Frequently Asked Questions

Lessons & Pricing

Do I need to pay to create an account?

No — signing up is completely free. You only pay when you book a lesson. An account is required to make bookings and access your dashboard, but there's no charge or commitment to create one. Once signed up, your first lesson is available at the introductory rate of $35 for 30 minutes. If you'd like to know more before signing up, you can send an enquiry first.

How do I book my first lesson?

Your very first lesson is at a special introductory rate of $35 for 30 minutes. Simply create an account, go to the booking page, choose a date and time, and pay online. After your first lesson, you can continue with casual bookings or purchase a block.

What should I expect in my first lesson?

Your first lesson is a relaxed 30-minute session where Samantha gets to know you, your musical background, and what you'd like to achieve. There's no pressure to perform — it's a chance to experience her teaching style, try some ear-training exercises, and discuss a plan for your learning journey. Just come as you are!

Where do lessons take place?

Lessons are held in person at Samantha's home studio in Nudgee, QLD. If you have questions about location or accessibility, please get in touch before booking.

What's the difference between casual and block lessons?

Casual lessons are pay-as-you-go with no commitment — $40 for 30 minutes or $75 for 1 hour. Block lessons are purchased as a bundle of 10 at a discounted rate ($360 for 30-minute or $675 for 1-hour lessons), and include access to online learning material, quizzes, and the community forum.

How do I cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Block lessons can be cancelled from the Bookings page in your account. When you cancel, your credit is returned as a catch-up credit that expires in 1 week — so make sure to rebook quickly. For casual or first lessons, please contact Samantha directly to discuss changes.

How do recurring bookings work?

If you have an active block, you can choose a day of the week, a time slot, and a start date. The system will automatically book one lesson per week during school term, skipping any weeks outside of term or where the time slot is already taken. You'll see a preview of all the dates before confirming.

How do lesson notes and feedback work?

After each lesson, Samantha will share personalised notes and feedback on your dashboard under "Recent Lesson Notes". You can like a note with the heart button to let her know you've seen it, or reply directly with follow-up questions. Samantha can reply back, creating a simple conversation thread for each lesson.

Can I book lessons outside of school term?

All lessons follow the school term calendar — dates outside of term are unavailable in the booking calendar. When you set up recurring bookings, weeks outside of term are automatically skipped. If you'd like to arrange a lesson outside of term, please contact Samantha directly.

How do payments work?

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. You can pay with any major credit or debit card. Casual and first lessons are paid at the time of booking. Block purchases are paid upfront for the full bundle of 10 lessons. If you have questions about a payment or need to discuss a refund, please contact Samantha directly.

Lesson Blocks & Credits

How do lesson blocks work?

A block is a bundle of 10 lesson credits that you purchase upfront at a discounted rate. Once purchased, you can book lessons one at a time or set up a recurring weekly slot to book all 10 at once. Block subscribers also get access to online learning material including guided content, quizzes, and the community forum.

Can I buy a block partway through the school term?

Yes. If you join mid-term, the pricing page offers a shorter block sized to the number of weeks remaining in the current term. This means you only pay for the weeks left rather than a full block of 10. You still get the same per-lesson block rate, access to online learning content, and can set up recurring bookings for the remaining term weeks. Alternatively, you can purchase a full block of 10 — any unused credits carry over into the next term, so nothing is lost.

What happens when I use all my block credits?

When you book your 10th lesson, the block is marked as completed. You'll keep full access to online learning material, quizzes, and the forum until your last booked lesson has taken place. After that, you get a 2-week grace period to purchase a new block before your access ends.

What is a catch-up credit?

If you have a block and miss a week during school term (no lesson booked that week), you automatically receive a catch-up credit. Catch-up credits expire after 1 week, so be sure to rebook promptly. If you cancel a booked lesson, your credit is also returned as a catch-up credit with a 1-week expiry.

Do I have to book exactly one lesson per week?

No — you can book more than one lesson in a week if you have credits available. However, the system checks each term week for at least one booking. If a term week passes with no lesson booked, one of your block credits is converted into a catch-up credit. Catch-up credits expire after 1 week, so if you don't rebook within that window, the credit is lost. The easiest way to stay on track is to set up a recurring weekly booking, which automatically reserves your preferred slot each week during term.

What is the grace period?

The grace period is 14 days of continued access after your last lesson from a completed block. During this time you can still view all online learning material, take quizzes, and use the forum. You'll receive email reminders at 7 days and 1 day before access expires, giving you time to purchase a new block.

Online Learning

What online learning material is included with a block?

Block subscribers get access to a library of guided learning content covering topics like ear training, rhythm, improvisation, and music theory. Each topic is categorised by level (e.g. Beginner, Intermediate) so you can work at your own pace. Many topics also include a quiz so you can test your understanding. You can filter by level and track what you've completed from the Learning page.

How do I track my learning progress?

As you work through the online learning material, you can mark each topic as complete using the button on the page. Your dashboard shows how many topics you've completed, your quiz scores, and your overall progress. If you mark something as complete by accident, you can undo it from the same page.

How do quizzes work?

Some learning topics include a short quiz to help reinforce what you've covered. After answering all the questions you'll see your score straight away with feedback on each question. You can retake a quiz as many times as you like — each attempt is recorded on your dashboard so you can see your improvement over time.

Can I access the online learning material without a block?

Online learning material, quizzes, and the community forum are exclusive to block subscribers. Casual and first-lesson students can book and attend lessons but won't have access to the online content. Purchasing a block unlocks everything immediately.

Will I lose my quiz scores and progress if my access expires?

No. Your quiz scores, learning progress, and all history are saved permanently. You can always see them on your dashboard, even after access to online learning material has ended. Purchasing a new block will restore full access immediately.

Community Forum

What is the community forum?

The forum is a space for block subscribers to connect with fellow students, share tips, ask questions, and discuss their musical journey. It's a supportive community where you can learn from each other and stay motivated between lessons.

Who can post on the forum?

Any student with an active block subscription can start threads and post replies. Access to the forum continues during your grace period after a block is completed. Casual and first-lesson students do not have forum access.

What are the forum rules?

All forum activity is covered by our Community Guidelines. In short: be kind and respectful, stay on topic, and don't share personal contact details in public posts. Violations may lead to content removal or account restrictions.

How do I report an inappropriate post?

Click the "Report" link beneath any post. Your report is sent to the moderator for review and is kept confidential — other users won't see that a post has been reported. The moderator will take appropriate action.

What does it mean when a thread is locked?

A locked thread is still visible and readable, but no new replies can be added. Threads may be locked when a question has been resolved or a discussion has run its course.
